Day 08 - Accidental Ferries
Amsterdam, Netherlands
VIA Hostel and Nieuwmarkt
-
It was a slow start to my Monday.
A lot of prep on meetings to come, blog-work, and catching up with loved ones over the social medias.
But it was also a day to sample all of the foods Amsterdam had to offer, including the 6 euro breakfast spread in the enjoyable communal foyer at the VIA Hostel. I decided today should have as little of a plan as possible, and I took that mentality on by foot. Twenty kilometres laters and sun drawing close to the afternoon horizon I found myself on the outskirts of a harbour district and seated on the edge of an open-air bar overlooking MVRDV’s 2003 mixed-use Silodam project.
Both the bar - Plekk - and Silodam emanated an industrial language through a stacked expression of shipping container-like geometries. The discovery of both of these places was purely and perfectly coincidental - all I can say is that accidental ferry rides lead to good places.
